HOME/LAND: Moths to the Flame, Installation, mixed media, A + D Gallery, Columbia College, Chicago 2010, and University of Texas, San Antonio 2007
In the Fall of 2006, I was a Visiting Artist at the University of Texas, San Antonio, and I was asked to develop an installation that reflected on the experience of living in the San Antonio area. I was naturally drawn to the subject of immigrants, after visiting the Texas Institute of Cultures, and also to the moths I was filming at night on the back porch of my cabin at Majestic Ranch, outside Boerne, Texas. This installation paralleled the human experience with that of moths, the search for place or home paired with the attraction of moths to light.
